Matthew was born in the Atlanta area and attended school in Clayton County until he moved to Salt Lake City to obtain his Bachelor’s Degrees. He double majored in Psychology as well as Sociology with certification in Criminology. These degrees were obtained during the years of 1998-2003. While in Salt Lake City, Matthew worked part time in the food and beverage industry, Campus Recreation, and for the Community based Kiwanis-Felt organization helping in facilitating youth sporting activities. From 2003—2007 Matthew lived in the McDonough, GA area working for Eagle’s Landing Country Club and Clayton Country Public schools. During this time he met his wife and decided to enter into graduate school at Valdosta State University in August, 2007.

Matthew Swofford started his private practice after becoming fully licensed by the state of GA 2015. Matthew has worked in a variety of settings since obtaining his Master’s Degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology in December, 2009. A majority of those settings involved working with the population of dually diagnosed or co-morbid disorders. He started working with the young adult population in 2010 and in 2012 became the lead therapist in an IOP program at Ridgeview Institute. This was his primary role at Ridgeview but in addition to this he consistently facilitated 2-3 weekly educational or experiential group lectures for multiple populations in the Partial Hospitalization Program. Matthew utilizes a variety of Cognitive based therapy approaches when facilitating therapy sessions which include Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
